The new Islington Museum opened 12 May 2008 to the general public following the extensive alteration and refurbishment works to convert the basement at the Finsbury Library into the Museum’s new home.
One of the difficulties working in this location is the ‘Sshhh, quiet please!’ scenario as the Library remained open with business as usual during the works, and nearby residences. To keep disturbance to the library visitors’ to a minimum heavy works were carried out at agreed times.

Roger Stong, Contractor Administrator, comments: “The client department and Islington Council Library services have recently celebrated the opening of their new museum at St John's Street Islington. The project which was largely funded by the Heritage Lottery Fund has been very well received by visitors, Council Officers and Council Members alike. The creation of the new entrance to the building involved considerable excavation work, during the course of which many unknown difficulties were encountered. The pro active thinking of Malcolm Giddings and the excellent site management of Steve Roberts enabled these difficulties to be smoothly overcome and the resulting building is a credit to all of those involved in the project.
Speaking recently to the Lottery Fund inspector I was told that in his view the contribution made by the site staff was a major factor in the successful completion of the project. I would like to thank both Malcolm and Steve for their hard work, help and assistance during the course of the museum contract.”

Moonwalk 2008
In April ‘Chocs for Charity’ supported Paul from County Waste Management by sponsoring him for running the London Marathon. Paul completed his fourth London Marathon and all proceeds went to The Emily Ash Trust which carries out an incredible job supporting families of children with leukaemia. On 17th May 2008 Kerry and Emma took part in the annual Playtex 13.1 miles Moonwalk and raised over £300.00 for Breast Cancer.
CRASH 2008
On 23rd May 2008 Diamond Build Plc took part in ’Crash Red Friday’. Staff wore something red and donated money to support the work of CRASH. Well done to Susie Howard who completed the 5km Race for Life in 46 minutes, raising well over £100 for Cancer Research.
The London Eye
This year staff have already had the chance to play Golf @ Panshangers Golf Club, this is always a popular activity for those very competitive golfers! In May there was a new activity, the London Eye and lunch at Pizza Express, it was a great afternoon to chill and chat.
Day trip to Southend
June had a good turn out for Southend, a fun afternoon eating traditional fish and chips, drinking, shopping, playing in the arcade, crazy golf….. unfortunately no sunbathing! In July staff had a lovely meal at a restaurant in Woodford which was enjoyed by all.
